Enclosed sports and leisure areas are ordered to shut

As part of the updated rules from the government on March 23 which stepped up measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus, all non-essential premises have been forced to close.

Enclosed spaces in parks, including playgrounds, sports courts and pitches and outdoor gyms or similar have been ordered to shut.

Parks will remain open but only for individuals and households to exercise once a day. Communal spaces within parks such as playgrounds and football pitches will be closed.

This follows the instructions on March 20 to close businesses such as theatres, cinemas, gyms, leisure centres, restaurants, cafes and pubs.

In the statement by the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, he asked businesses and premises and other venues not to open for trade from close of trade March 23, 2020. The government will look again at these measures in three weeks, and relax them if the evidence shows this is possible.
